Buildings & Grounds Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church Portland, Maine

The Building and Grounds Committee has been comprised of around 6 to 8 members for a number of years. The experience of the members varies widely but all have an interest in maintaining the facility. We are fortunate that some have experience in gardening and are very involved in supervising and taking care of the grounds, while some others have some experience in dealing with building repair and maintenance. We meet once a month to discuss how to deal with issues and projects. Sometimes we even have the luxury to try to look for ways to improve the church facility. Scheduling and supervising all Church work days are one. Other examples are building and installing a new center island for the kitchen, remodeling the church office, installing new low energy lighting throughout, new counter in the women’s bath, etc. For someone interested in seeing visible, tangible results, it can be a very satisfying committee.
