Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church (A2U2) is a supporting member of Project FEED, an emergency food pantry located in the basement of Woodfords Congregational Church, UCC.

Founded in 1975 by a group of clergy and lay-people concerned with the growing number of Portland residents who were without a reliable source of food in emergencies, Project FEED is supported by many individuals and organizations in the Greater Portland area and is staffed completely by volunteers.

Clients get emergency food every two months after receiving a referral from a social service agency.  In an average week Project FEED serves over 45 clients, each client being an individual or a family of from two to eight people.

The pantry is open to clients Monday through Friday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, except for holidays or weather closings.

How you can help:

  • Volunteer: volunteer jobs at the food pantry include managing the food and volunteer operations, restocking shelves, serving clients, buying food and supplies, picking up deliveries and serving on its Board of Directors.
  • Bring contributions of non-perishable food and leave them in the red cart in the foyer at A2U2.
  • Donate reusable bags by leaving them in the red cart in the foyer at A2U2.
