We would love to introduce ourselves to you. The Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist church is a community of people who like each other. We welcome people from all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations and religious backgrounds. We have no creed to which members must agree. We rely on our ethical principles to guide us. You can
view our narrated slide show to see and hear what we are about. You can also take a few moments to go through all the information in our Visitors section (see the submenu at the left) to learn more about us.
We are a community that:
Celebrates Diversity . . .

Our Minister, Reverend Mykel Johnson, is a strong leader and warm presence in the pulpit and in congregational life. She challenges us to take a deeper look at ourselves and our relationship with the diverse community and world around us.
Our adult and youth education programs help us understand and respect other cultures, religions, political perspectives and lifestyles.
Encourages Spiritual Growth . . .
We offer a broad range of options for personal spiritual growth. You, or a member of your family, can choose to join a Spiritual Enrichment Group (SEG), attend Sunday Children's Religious Education programs, and attend workshops that fit your personal spiritual path and gain spiritual and intellectual insights from Reverend Johnson's services. During the year, particularly in the summer, members often lead services that reflect their own personal spiritual and intellectual perspectives and stories.
Promotes Social Responsibility . . .
Our congregation is known for its social action and service to others. Allen Avenue is an active participant in Portland's Soup Kitchen and Project Feed. We engage in UU and community activism, and denomination efforts for peace and justice. Our church is a Nuclear Free Zone and a Green Sanctuary, seeking to be environmentally and socially responsible...as we walk with care on this earth. We have received national UU and local recognition for our efforts.
. . . And Has Fun!
We are also known for our personal warmth, for enjoying each other's company and having fun. Whether at a potluck supper, talent show, protest march, movie night or work day, we know how to enjoy each other's company.
We look forward to getting to know you better, listening, answering your questions and sharing with you how our community may be right for you.
