Focusing on “Truth”

Greetings, church!

I hope this finds you well and enjoying a string of gorgeous fall days in Maine.

While some of you will be traveling for the long weekend, I hope that those of you staying home will come to church and honor Indigenous Peoples Day Weekend and the end of the High Holy Days with our service –“Like a House Built on Rock.” We’ll focus on the concept of “truth” and examine some of the founding myths of our country.

What would it mean for us to start telling the truth, collectively? Is it too late? What is at stake if we don’t? How do the stories we’ve constructed about who we are impact our ability to engage in processes of repentance and repair? As always, it will be good to be together.

While these crisp sunny days have brought me deep contentment, I’ve been watching the news of storms in Florida and beyond with a broken heart. This is living in a climate changed world. If you are so moved, please join me in making a donation to the UUA’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Now more than ever, we need one another.

With love and care,

Rev. Tara (they/them)
