PLEASE CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS TODAY AND ASK THEM TO VOTE YES ON LD 1317!
(This bill removes limitations on food supplement program benefits and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program benefits, provides MaineCare coverage and modifies language for state-funded supplemental security income to maintain consistency throughout the law for certain noncitizens who are lawfully present in the United States or pursuing a lawful process to apply for immigration relief.)
☎️☎️☎️UPDATE FROM AUGUSTA! The Maine House and Senate postponed a vote on LD 1317 to TODAY and TOMORROW (Tuesday, June 18 & Wednesday, June 19)
LD 1317 is a bill that would help more Maine immigrants access the food and housing supports they may need to get on their feet, INCLUDING asylum seekers like those who have arrived in Portland recently.
In the past week, our communities have come together in inspiring ways to support Maine immigrants. Donations, volunteers by the thousands, and messages of welcome have shown what our state is all about: neighbors helping neighbors. The state of Maine has an important role to play in these efforts and LD 1317 is a bill that would help our local communities meet the needs of our immigrant neighbors.
It’s really easy to leave a quick phone message for your legislator. If you’re not sure who represents you, find your State Representative (https://bit.ly/2THzTOV) or find your State Senator (https://bit.ly/2qqHuYd)
