How Do We Hold onto Our Humanity?

We have a full weekend ahead of us at A2U2 and I wish those of you who are traveling for the long weekend well!

On Saturday at 2pm, in the Sanctuary and on Zoom, we will celebrate the life and incredible legacy of longtime member and Director of Religious Education Emerita, Tirrell Kimball. We’ll continue our sharing of stories and memories after the service with a reception put on by many of you! So join us to lift up the love and gifts that Tirrell poured into this community for over 50 years. I know we will leave lifted up, too.

We’ll gather again on Sunday morning for worship, a service entitled “How to Stay Human.” On this Indigenous Peoples Day weekend, we’ll ask… How do we hold onto our humanity in a society founded on the elimination of indigenous peoples and built up by the slave trade… sharing in common the dehumanization of those perceived as “other”? How do we stay human when we are the victims of such thinking, or have participated–actively or through our silence–in the dehumanization of particular groups? How does living in the world as it is today harm our spirits, our souls… and how might we return to wholeness?

We’ll talk together about Harry Potter and moral injury, we’ll hear poetry, and we will sing together. We will attempt to touch the depth of our humanity. And, perhaps, leave a little more whole. I hope you’ll join us.

Until then, friends, may your days be blessed.

I’ll see you in church.
