The Religious Education Blue Team (grades 3, 4 and 5) is learning about hunger and food insecurity this month, and is doing a canned/non-perishable food drive to help feed the hungry in the Portland community! The title of the food drive is “House Panthesis CAN Defeat Hunger.” Please note the collection boxes in the entrance way of the church. The food the Blue Team collects will go directly to the Locker Project, an organization in our community with a mission to connect food-insecure children in Maine with nourishing food to improve their learning capacity, health, and future. The Locker Project is most in need of kid-friendly items like boxes of mac and cheese, canned soup, pop-top cans of pasta (like Chef Boyardee) and peanut butter.
Note that the Blue Team will be “trick or treating” for food donations during the 9:00am service on October 20. We’d love it if anyone who wants to participate brings one items of the above-referenced requested non-perishable foods to the 9:00am service. Then, during Children’s Time, the Blue Team will happily “trick or treat” for your food donation—which will go directly to the Locker Project. Please note: monetary donations will NOT be accepted during Trick or Treating.
Lastly, if you prefer to donate monetarily to support the cause, please see this link, where donations will directly benefit one of the Locker Project’s many affiliates, the Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine: https://www.gsfb.org/donate/vfd/4582.
Thanks for your support to the Blue Team’s important community service project this month!
