FROM YOUR TRANSITION TEAM:
It’s time for the next key step in our church’s transition, selecting a SEARCH COMMITTEE FOR THE NEW SETTLED MINISTER. Our goal is to form a committee of 7 members over the next few weeks.
We are looking for a group which has a balance of interests, theological awareness, sex, age and length of membership. We will need a team with, as much as possible, varied skills and knowledge in the different areas of church life including, religious education, buildings and grounds, social action, finance etc. Members will be making a significant time commitment, but it will be over in one year.
Shortly, you will be receiving a call asking two questions. Who would you suggest as a good candidate for the committee, and would you be willing to serve if asked? We will then take the responses from all members who have responded and generate a list of candidates that people feel would be good in this role. That list will be given to the Board for approval and will be presented to the congregation at the Annual Meeting.
When you are thinking of who you would like to see on the committee, consider folks who have skills in areas such as IT, organization and logistics, communication, graphic design and those with good personal skills. Who do you respect and trust to work toward consensus? Who has a good knowledge of congregational life?
This is an opportunity for everyone in the church to have important input about who our next minister will be. The more we all are involved, the better.
