Winds of Grace

Introducing Beau Rivers

We all know that our congregation is preparing to call a minister to serve us, and it is a very exciting time in the life of this church.  But did you know that congregations also ordain new ministers? The decision to enter the ministry is an exciting one for the individual, and it is likewise a blessing for the congregation to share in this event.  It is also a weighty responsibility. In our Unitarian Universalist tradition, only congregations have the authority to ordain a person to the sacred work of ministry and to thereby affirm that minister’s call and readiness.

Beau Rivers, a member of our congregation since 1995, has requested that Allen Avenue UU ordain her to the Unitarian Universalist ministry.  Since her education in recent years has taken her away from Maine, many people here know her less than they would expect to, and in order to make an authentic discernment regarding this ordination, the Board of Trustees has invited Beau to lead the worship service here this Sunday, November 10.  In this way everyone will have the opportunity to experience Beau in a ministerial capacity. We encourage all who can to come with open heart and mind and share in the worship experience either at 9 or 11 a.m. this Sunday.
