Happy June, dear ones, and a blessed beginning to this Pride Month!
Each June we commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riot and lift up the ongoing movement for LGBTQIA+ liberation. We celebrate the 2Spirit, bisexual, queer, asexual, lesbian and gay, nonbinary, transgender, and genderqueer folks in our midst as well as the myriad of ways we humans experience love, sex, gender, and family. Diversity is such a gift to our world.
Sunday is an all-ages pride service, with an interactive ritual to help us imagine a world where LGBTQIA+ liberation exists in full. We’ll remember the events of Stonewall and talk about not just what we want to tear down, but what we want to build up. I’m really looking forward to it and hope you and your families and children, and perhaps even a friend, will join us!
The work of being a Unitarian Universalist community is the work of actively practicing being the world we want to build. We do it imperfectly, but we do it! We focus on process, center relationship, build trust, navigate conflict, care for one another, work for justice, and grow our spirits. There’s a lot that goes into making this possible. I hope you’ll stay on Sunday after worship for this year’s A2U2 Annual Meeting (in person & on Zoom!). We’ll thank our leaders from this past year, vote in new leaders, approve our congregation’s budget for this coming year, and more (please take a look at my annual report if you haven’t yet)! Childcare is provided and snacks/drinks will be available to hold you over until lunch. Anyone can attend the meeting and listen in. Only those who are members are able to vote.
So don your gay apparel – your rainbows, bright colors, favorite drag outfit… whatever makes you feel fabulous. And we will celebrate in love, acceptance, and joy.
See you in church.
In faith,
Rev. Tara
