Blessed Are The Peacemakers

Members and friends,

May this note find you well on this Thursday morning!

I hope you were as uplifted and moved by our service last Sunday as I was – five rich reflections from members of our A2U2 community from each generation on how they each make meaning of their one wild and precious life. What a gift.

The theme of this coming weekend is justicemaking, and our worship service on Sunday will be the last of a three-week series of collaborative worship services co-led by church members and me. Sermons will return to services on Easter, April 5th!

What’s ahead? On Friday night, a community sing event (all abilities!) in preparation for Saturday’s NO KINGS rally. Gather at St. Luke’s Cathedral, 143 State St, at 6:30pm for grounding and connection, and the community sing begins at 7pm. This event is sponsored by Portland Singing Resistance.

On Saturday, many A2U2’ers will gather at the NO KINGS rally in Monument Square. Ideal Maine Band plays at 11:30am. Rally at noon. Thank you to Cynthia Marten for arranging volunteer drivers for our members who cannot drive there, and thank you drivers!

And Sunday, a collaborative worship service co-led by our A2U2 Social Justice Committee and me – “People, Power, Protest.” We’ll honor Palm Sunday, a protest that happened over 2,000 years ago, by hearing SJ Committee members reflect on transformative experiences they have had participating in protests over the decades for all kinds of justice issues. Please join us in person or on Zoom!

Finally, I’d love to share a short opinion piece I wrote for the Press Herald this week addressing some of the harmful theologies behind the current administration’s approach to the war in Iran. May we remember that Love is at the center of all things, and this gives us power to choose the path of justice on behalf of peace for our world.

I look forward to seeing you on the street, in the Sanctuary, or through the “clouds” over Zoom.

In faith,

Rev. Tara
