Greetings to you on a beautiful sunny day! I am trying to hold onto the joy of small things, like sunshine, amidst the ongoing horror of All The Things, in particular this week the unfolding situation in Iran and Lebanon and the dismissal of the core truth of our Unitarian Universalist faith… that no life is disposable… nobody unworthy or outside the circle of Love.
I am holding onto the Easter message that to be a resurrection people we can and must write the story of our shared life with our own lives… with how we act and treat one another… with how we spend our days, who we advocate for, and what narratives we amplify. Sometimes, though, we can feel convicted about what our work is, yet unsure where we are in it and how exactly to move forward. Sometimes, we find ourselves spinning our wheels and wondering which way is forward. Or at least I do!
That’s where this Sunday’s service will meet you… that place where the wheels are spinning in the mud. Where you / we might be wondering… am I / are we lost? Perhaps it’s a situation in your personal life, where we are as a congregation, or about your own role in the larger movement for justice and love in our country and world. We’ll reflect on how to live faithfully and in alignment with our shared values in times where we’re not sure which way is forward, or up, or down… when we’re in between. And I’ll invite us to consider the possibility that in times such as these, creativity, experimentation, and the refusal to rush to a quick fix might just be the superpower we all need.
I hope you will join us in person or online. It is always so good to be together!
Onward in faith,
Rev. Tara
