You Belong

Dear Church,

I hope you enjoyed the sunshine the early week brought. We are gearing up for a rich and full weekend of A2U2 events and opportunities to connect and build community.

Many will gather at our UU camp and conference center at Ferry Beach for a weekend of retreat with our friends from Norway and Auburn. I look forward to joining you on Saturday! Those of us who have returned home by Sunday AM will be led in worship back in our Sanctuary and on Zoom by my colleague, Rev. Laurel Gray, and me. Rev. Laurel, the incoming Minister at the UU Church of Reading, MA and a dear colleague of mine, will preach and I will serve as her Worship Associate. Sunday’s service theme is disability justice and Laurel will reflect on the 1990 Capitol Crawl, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and what we as Unitarian Universalists have learned (and still have to learn) from the disability justice movement. I am looking forward to a rich service, as this is an area of ongoing learning and growth for me in my own advocacy and justice work. I hope you’ll join me!

After worship, while Rev. Laurel visits with you during coffee hour, I will lead our spring New to UU class in the Gathering Room (7/9) from 11:30am-1:30pm. We still have space for a few more participants so please share the signup info if you know someone who might be interested! We will welcome another group of new members to our faith community in the coming weeks, which is always exciting.

If you are on a committee or part of a group that submits an Annual Report, please get that in to Mari, our Admin! Yes, it’s a report… another thing to write and do… but it’s also a really great opportunity to reflect on what your corner of our congregation’s life has been working on this year and write it down to become part of our church’s documented history. It’s neat to look back over the years and see what the congregation was up to and what felt most important to highlight.

With gratitude for all the work so many of you do to keep our community humming, and hope that we’ll be together in person or virtually in the days to come!

In faith,

Rev. Tara
