Volunteering
Religious Education (RE) is a cooperative program and relies heavily on adult volunteers – over 60 each year! We welcome your participation and would love to tell you more about opportunities to volunteer in our RE program.
The RE Committee oversees the Youth and Children’s Program, working with the Director of Religious Education to formulate goals, select curricula and evaluate programs.
Nursery Volunteers assist our regular childcare staff in providing babies and toddlers with a caring, stimulating and safe environment during worship services.
Workshop Leaders and Guides volunteer with children in preschool through 5th grade. Workshop Leaders plan and lead sessions on a monthly basis in our preschool and elementary programs. Leaders have the flexibility to bring their own gifts and talents to our established curriculum. Guides stay with an age group for 10-12 weeks, getting to know the children individually and providing continuity.
Junior Youth Group Advisors work together to lead Junior Youth Group based on an established curriculum. Advisors are members of the church and stay with the group for 10-12 weeks at a time, in order to get to know the youth and provide continuity. The group meets weekly during the 9:00 AM Sunday service.
Senior Youth Group Advisors work as a team to lead Senior Youth Group. Advisors are members of the church and are interviewed by the Director of Religious Education. The group meets weekly during the 9:00 AM Sunday service, and occasionally on other days of the week.
Other volunteer opportunities include helping with special programs and events, including the Our Whole Lives program of sexuality and relationship education and the Coming of Age Program, a rite of passage program for high-schoolers. Volunteers make all our activities –workdays, youth group overnights, bake sales, special programs and more – possible. We are always looking for people with special skills like children’s art, yoga, music, face painting, and so on.
