The bagpipes sound. The darkness comes. The new flame flickers and warms the chalice of ice. Music, poems, and silences fill the room as Yin and Yang and Leader mix their voices with drum and voice and flute to celebrate the interplay of night and day, of cold and warmth, in Allen Avenue’s twenty-sixth annual Winter Solstice Service. Come, come, whoever you are, to join us gazing out at dawn redwood in wonder and awe at 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 22. Children who can be still through extended silences are welcome to be present. Childcare is available for those needing more movement. Light refreshment will be offered following the service.
